Fortune Teller

"Went to the fortune teller
Had my fortune read
I didn't know what to tell her
I had a dizzy feeling in my head

When she took a look at my palm
She said son are you feeling kinda warm?
And she looked into her crystal ball
And said you're in love

I said I could not be so
I'm not passionate with the girls I know
She said when the next one arrives
You'll be looking into her eyes

I left there in a hurry
Looking forward to my big surprise
The next day I discovered
That the fortune teller told me lies

I hurried back down to that woman
As mad as I could be
I told her I didn't see nobody
Why'd she made a fool out of me

Then something struck me
As if it came from up above
While looking at the fortune teller
I fell in love

Now I'm a happy fellow
Well, I am married to the fortune teller
Well happy as me can be
Now I get my fortune told for free

Now I'm a happy fellow
Well, I am married to the fortune teller
Well happy as me can be
And now I get my fortune told for free"

Songwriters: Allen Toussaint

You may have heard a version of this song from The Rolling Stones, but the version I am familiar with is from the 2007 album Raising Sand, a collaboration between Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. To listen to that version click here. The colors of this outfit just reminded me of a fortune teller costume for some reason, the rich purples, burgundy, and touch of dark forest green. Plus I found some nice matching purple bricks and antique shop windows filled with colorful glass bottles and for a moment almost felt like I was in Diagon Alley, or perhaps somewhere like New Orleans Square at Disneyland, but instead it's only a little mountain town here in the Rocky Mountains called Georgetown.

What would the tea leaves and tarot say for me just now? I haven't a clue, and it's a shame too because as we know I could use a few premonitions just about now. I almost wish I believed in such things so I could seek a little comfort in the mystery, but instead my future will remain foggy and unclear. The uncertainty is what bothers me most of course, because uncertainty requires hope, and being constantly hopeful is just so tiring. Alas, hope is the only option is it not? Though, as a sarcastic and dark humored person myself, it would seem I tend towards despair more often as a rule. I've got hope in my heart though, sometimes that surprises me. It becomes obscured in the fog naturally, but oddly enough, it is still there somewhere behind the haze.

So I'll keep trying, and some days will be mistier than others, and perhaps the fog will settle in and really try to blind me, but I'll keep trying. Even though lately every fiber seems to scream it's already too late, even though every step forward still feels like walking in a circle. I'm no fortune teller, but that also means I don't know if tomorrow is the day things change, the day when the well tread circle breaks, and case it is I guess I'll keep walking. Don't expect me to dance though, but every so often I will manage a twirl. Blame the circle skirts, they make it impossible to resist.

    1. Thank you Janey! It wasn't open so sadly I didn't get to see inside. I forget sometimes that I actually live in the "old west" until I visit little mountain towns like this one :)
