Sunday Spotlight: The Old Banana Republic

Some of you know I used to work retail at Banana Republic, but sadly their clothing is not even 1% as cool as it used to be! Sure you can tell some of these items are a bit on the 80's side, but with Lauren Bacall hair and red lips? I want one of everything, layer me in khaki.

Just a little inspiration for any of my fellow safari/adventure style lovers out there on this lazy Sunday (or is it just me who is feeling lazy?). All images from old Banana Republic catalogs and were found on this fabulous BR superfan website here. A few more under the cut, enjoy!

  1. I never knew! This is a great post! If only we could still dial that toll free number for a few of those items!

  2. My dad has a leather shearling lined vest from 80s Banana Republic. He at one point was like "hm, I don't fit it quite as well anymore, maybe I should get a new one. I got the last from Banana Republic..." and was really confused when my sister and I laughed really loudly at the thought of him FINDING that at BR today. :-)

I love all that explorer clothing stuff though!

    1. That is adorable! We had a man call the store once looking for a special fishing hat, and we sadly had to tell him BR no longer had that kind of gear!

  4. So incredibly awesome! (They and the J. Peterman Company had the best catalogs in the 80s!) The Lady Explorer vibes here are off the charts. I want one (or two! :)) of everything, pretty please.

Thank you for the stellar share!

  6. I was saving up for the Amelia Earhart jacket when the Gap bought BR out. I was completely devastated. J. Peterman's catalogs are almost as much fun as the original BR ones but the prices are much higher and they tend to have things only a short while. Though I do admit that the quality is wonderful and lots o things are vintage based (like their glamour trousers).
